Yesterday I wrote a different article for this blog. It was basically another plea for people on either side of the “Kneeling” controversy to quiet down and listen to the others. After writing the article I took my wife to the dentist. I intended to proof the article after returning and then post it.
It didn’t work out that way.
As I stood with neighbors last night watching the flames of the Canyon fire roar and knowing they could turn on us at any time, I found myself looking at the neighbors. Each shared a concern for their families and their safety. Each has their own fires. Each has other things to be concerned about in life. And I strongly suspect not one of them was interested in who knelt for the anthem and who didn’t.
Maybe one of the things we are lacking in our culture is perspective. It is so easy to see unimportant things on the news, on fb, and to somehow think that makes them important. And all the while, our attention is distracted from life–real life. Relationships, love, helping one another, encouraging one another, faith–these things are important.
These things are possible because our Lord gave them all up for us–this is most important.
May we all gain perspective before we need it.
